Certified Game Master I & Player Trainer (Mid-level)

A mid-level position. The Certified Level 1 Professional Game Master (GM) will run regular sessions with various clients, at various client locations, and provide training for players to learn how to play the applicable role-playing game.

Certified Level 1 Tabletop RPG or LARP Professional Game Master - Player Instructor (standard recreation/enterainment, non-therapeutics/non-education)

Reports to: Senior GM.

General Purpose

Run tabletop role-playing (RPG), live-action role-playing (LARP), or computer-based role-playing games at various locations and/or events. Provide training to new players, including understanding the game system rules and gaming etiquette.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Run tabletop RPG sessions for clients.
  • Typically 1-6 players per session.
  • Prepare adventures in accordance with RPG Therapeutics rules and guidelines, including GM Code of Conduct.
  • Complete assessment forms.
  • Prepare character sheets for participants to choose from.
  • Run adventures ranging from "one shots" to ongoing mid-length and long-term lengthy campaigns.
  • Address any group interpersonal issues, and maintain players compliance with RPG Therapeutics Player Code of Conduct.
  • Attend either in-person, or via remote access, at least one free training session / administrative meeting per week (3-4 hours)
  • Availability for at least 1 weekly group session per week (game sessions typically 3-5 hours), and up to 5 sessions per week.

  • Reliable schedule compliance


Education and Training


  • Minimum Level 1 GM Certification
  • Minimum 5+ years experience as Game Master with at least one RPG format* and at least one RPG system/setting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of role-playing game system rules for at least one published game system
  • Assertive (not aggressive) presence with confident but warm, friendly, empathetic, and compassionate communication style.


Optional but preferred:

  • Other RPG Related certifications/training.
  • Recreation /event management training/certification.
  • Therapeutic Recreation /Recreational Therapy training or certification (CTRS)
  • 10+ years experience as Game Master (GM)
  • 10+ years personal experience with all 4 RPG formats.
  • Some working knowledge/experience with music and music therapy
  • Some working knowledge/experience with therapeutic recreation / recreational therapy
  • Experienced theatrical acting skills
  • Effective voice acting skills
  • Experienced broadcasting skills
  • Experienced audio/video editing skills
  • Experience with online broadcasting: Youtube, Twitch, etc.

 * Formats include: tabletop (RPG), live-action (LARP), computer-based (CRPG), and solo adventure books and modules (SABM).

Working Conditions

Game Master will frequently work at RPG Therapeutics offices or other locations including but not limited to:

  • Conventions
  • Libraries
  • Community centers
  • Educational institutions
  • Care facilities
  • Mobile Facility, the Wheelchair Friendly RPG Trailer at various locations


Hours: Varies. Minimum 1 billable client gaming session per month, and up to 10 sessions per week (3-5 hours per session).

Compensation: $20+/hr

Note: We have overwhelming demand from paying clients far outpacing our ability to provide services due to a lack of sufficiently qualified people. Employment begins 2018.
