Certified Game Master III - Therapist & Trainer

A senior level position. The Certified Professional Game Master III (GM) provides role-playing games, and optional music services, to clients with specific therapeutic needs (RPG Therapy), and provides RPG training to professionals wishing to learn similar skills.

Certified Level 3 Tabletop RPG / LARP / CRPG Game Master

Reports to: RPG Director

General Purpose

Run tabletop role-playing (RPG), live-action role-playing (LARP), or computer-based role-playing games at various locations for clients. Services are designed to help clients achieve specific, measurable, therapeutic goals.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Run therapeutic RPG/LARP sessions for clients.
  • Typically 3-5 players per session.
  • Sessions typically 3-5 hours.
  • Prepare adventures in accordance with RPG Therapeutics rules and guidelines, including GM Code of Conduct.
  • Customize program plans to meet client's assessed needs.
  • Complete and regularly update assessment forms.
  • Prepared character sheets for participants to use.
  • Run campaign adventures spanning several weeks or months, typically once per week per client group.
  • Insure participant compliance with Player Code of Conduct.
  • Regularly report to RPG Therapist staff.
  • Attend either in-person or via remote access, at least one free training session / administrative meeting per week (3-4 hours)
  • Availability for at least 1 weekly group session per week (game sessions typically 3-5 hours), and up to 6 session per week.

  • Adapt RPGs to meet specific client needs and accommodations
  • Provide therapeutic services, meeting specific, measurable, client goals, using RPGs.


Education and Training


  • Minimum Level 3 GM Therapist Certification
  • Minimum 10+ years experience as Game Master with at least RPG format and at least one RPG system/setting.

Optional but preferred:

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).
  • Music Therapist - Board Certified (MT-BC).
  • Other RPG Related certifications/training.
  • Recreation /event management training/certification.
  • Therapeutic Recreation /Recreational Therapy training or certification.
  • 25+ years experience as Game Master (GM)
  • 10+ years personal experience with all 4 RPG formats.
  • Some working knowledge/experience with music and music therapy
  • Some working knowledge/experience with therapeutic recreation / recreational therapy
  • American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency
  • Other languages proficiency

Working Conditions

Game Master will frequently work at RPG Therapeutics offices or other locations including but not limited to:

  • Conventions
  • Libraries
  • Community centers
  • Educational institutions
  • Care facilities
  • Mobile Facility, the Wheelchair Friendly RPG Trailer at various locations


Hours: Minimum 1 game session per month (3-5 hours per session typically), and up to 10 sessions per week.

Compensation: $30+/hr

Note: We have overwhelming demand from paying clients far outpacing our ability to provide services due to a lack of sufficiently qualified people.

Employment begins 2018.
